The Reading Buddies Programme is a complete step by step guide to setting up a Reading Buddies Programme in a primary school. It also contains the rationale for establishing such a programme in your school, along with an accompanying CD ROM of all necessary ancillary resources & materials in an easy to use format. A Reading Buddies Programme is a term to describe a specific method of setting up, implementing and monitoring a cross-age peer tutored paired reading programme. Cross-age peer-tutored paired reading is where a child in a younger class reads for/with an older child and is based on this paired reading technique. A typical Reading Buddies Programme will run for 10 to 12 weeks. *What do teachers say?* It was a very rewarding experience for all of us, the childrens reading improved, they developed more positive attitudes towards reading and we got very positive feedback from parents. I tested their reading ability using a Micra-T reading test before and after the project and 23 out of 28 participants made significant gains in reading.
